  12. the first year were enough to make me live up to the promises I made

  17. This version of the MicroTac Foreign Language Assistant is being distributed as
  18. "ShareWare".  It can be freely copied and distributed, as long as no fee
  19. more than $7 is charged.  Furthermore, it must be explicit that the money
  20. charged is NOT for the software, but rather copying and distribution
  21. costs.  Plus, PLEASE put me on your mailing list--if nothing else, I
  22. like to know what version you are distributing.  Registration is appreciated.
  23. If you do not want to send me a catalog, please don't use the software
  24. in it.  (There are some questionable places that sell ShareWare as if
  25. it were commercial software, cheating both the developer and the customer.)

  29. This version is so simple to use that instructions are almost unnecessary.
  30. The only question that one might have is how to change tenses.  The answer
  31. is:  use F8 or the right and left arrow keys!  Another question might be:  Why
  32. is the English search so slow.  Answer:  Because the programmer hasn't
  33. figured out a better way, considering the restriction that the ShareWare
  34. version needs to run on 1 disk.  Honest,  it's being worked on. (Note:
  35. the registered version has been corrected!)  Use F10 or <ESCAPE> to exit.

  39. If anyone knows of some decent Spell-Checking source code that I can
  40. integrate into the Assistant,  I'd love to see it.  Same goes for data
  41. compression and a foreign language grammar checker.  The source code is
  42. written in Turbo Pascal and uses TurboPower's Turbo Professional Library,
  43. which I highly recommend.  I'd also like to know about word processors
  44. that do a good job of printing the foreign language character set --
  45. an apostrophe on top of a regular character looks ok, but ...

  49. For your opportunity to have you name in lights, on a program that is
  50. popular throughout the international market, for a 1-liner on your resume,
  51. and for little or no financial reward, if you speak another language, you
  52. can help me.  I've had many requests (not $$$, but requests) to have the
  53. program not for English speakers learning a foreign language, but French
  54. or German speakers learning Spanish or Italian. So I'm working on ways to
  55. make this cross language barriers--write me for more info.  (For examle,
  56. the verbs file list is in a dBase file, relatively easy to change.  If
  57. you do translate the list, send it to me.  I'll give you proper credit!)

  67. My interest in foreign languages, especially Spanish, stems from a desire
  68. to foster peaceful relations among people and among nations.  While not
  69. particularly in love with the Sandinista government in Nicaragua, funding
  70. the contras for the explicit purpose of overthrowing them is abominable.
  71. If you're of an adventurous spirit, plan a trip to El Salvador or Nicaragua,
  72. or whatever culture interests you.  Do it!
